Susan Lucci pays tribute to husband at Daytime Emmys
On Friday, as part of the 2022 Daytime Emmy celebration, Susan Lucci took to the stage to remember those lost in the world of daytime TV over the past year.
During the memorium segment at the awards show, Lucci also paid to tribute to her late husband, Helmut Huber, who died aged 84 in March.
In the emotional moment, while remembering Huber, the actress fondly referred to Huber as the “love of her life.”
She added: “They say that grief is the price we pay for love. Well, grief is an excruciating price but I would not give up even one second of the love.”
Huber managed his wife’s career
As well as being by wife Susan Lucci’s side in marriage, the couple also worked together as Helmut Huber managed her throughout her career.
Huber, who previously worked as a hotel and restaurant executive, walked away from the industry to manage his wife’s career.
As well as her manager, Huber was also the chief executive of production company Pine Valley.
According to his IMDb, he was also credited as a co-producer on a couple of his wife’s TV movie projects, including Blood On Her Hands and Seduced And Betrayed.
Their marriage spanned over five decades
Susan Lucci and husband, Helmut Huber, were married for 52 years before his passing in March.
Lucci and Huber tied the knot in September 1969, and a year later Lucci landed her now iconic role as Erica on the ABC soap All My Children, which she went on to star in for just over four decades.
During their marriage, Lucci and Huber welcomed two children – daughter Liza and son Andreas. Soap fans will probably be familiar with Liza as she starred in the NBC soap Passions for almost a decade.
It was love at first sight for Huber
Lucci and Huber first crossed paths four years before they tied the knot at the Garden City Hotel.
At the time, the actress was waitressing, while Huber was the chef and head of the hotel’s food and beverage service.
The pair soon hit it off with, Huber having previously gushed about how he instantly fell for Lucci.
In a past interview with People he explained: “The first time I saw Susie, it hit me.” At the time, he went on to add how their spark was still there: “Still today, she walks in a room, and I just light up.”
