Reports emerged yesterday that former pro basketball player Vince Carter’s family home was burglarised while his wife Sondi lay in bed with their two children.

Thankfully, no one was harmed. Police lifted a fingerprint to identity the thief, Yahoo reports, after a “masked man wearing all black clothing” got away.

Carter told investigators $100,000 is missing from his family home. Police also found two guns at the scene.

Who is Sondi Carter?

Vince Carter’s wife Sondi is an elite trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

She’s a former competitive gymnast and National Champion collegiate leader, and is currently certified (through NASM) as a personal trainer.

Sondi is also a certificated strength and conditioning specialist, via the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

On top of the above, she holds a CPR/AED certification through the American Heart Association, and is an experienced counsellor and trainer of “individuals of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels” – so reads her professional bio on Share Care.

Where did she go to school?

Sondi Carter earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

From there, she transferred to Teachers College, Columbia University, where she completed a master of science in applied physiology and nutrition.

She then went to Altheus Health and Performance Centre in Westchester County, New York, where she completed a nutrition internship.

In other words, she knows a thing or two about nutrition. Fitness has been a “major part” of her life “since childhood”, her bio reads.

She has “experienced first hand the benefits of proper diet and exercise”, and is a “strong believer in the integrated approach to enhanced health and well-being”.

Vince and Sondi Carter have two kids

Vince Carter was previously married to chiropractor Ellen Rucker but they divorced in 2006 after two years of marriage.

They have a daughter – Kai Michelle Carter (pictured above) – who lives with her mother and stepfather, CNN analyst Bakari Sellers. Born 2005, Kai turned 17 this month.

Rucker now has two other kids; Vince and Sondi also have two of their own, a son named Vincent Lamar Carter Jr and a daughter.

What happened at the Carter family home on Sunday night?

Atlanta police responded to a burglary call just before midnight on Sunday, 19 June 2022.

Vince Carter’s wife Sondi was in at the time, with the couple’s two young children, “when she heard a loud noise and the sound of someone entering the home”, WSB-TV2 reports.

The outlet adds that, while property records show he owns the house, it’s “unclear” whether Vince Carter was present at the time of the break-in.

The New York Post notes Sondi and the two youngest members of the Carter family were thankfully “unscathed” during the incident.

Police officers collected surveillance video from cameras on the property. They also lifted a fingerprint from a side door that suspects may have exited through while fleeing law enforcement officers.
