Kendrick Lamar reveals intimate cover for Mr Morale & The Big Steppers album
Taking to social media on Wednesday (11 May), Kendrick Lamar revealed the cover art for his upcoming fifth studio album, Mr Morale & The Big Steppers.
The new album is set to drop tomorrow (Friday, 13 May) and comes five years after his fourth studio album, DAMN.
Mr Morale & The Big Steppers’ cover art shows an intimate portrait of Lamar and his fiancée Whitney Alford and their family.
While sharing the cover on his Instagram, the musician credited the cover to have been shot by photographer Renell Medrano, with some fans now curious to know more about her.

Get to know photographer Renell Medrano
Renell Medrano is a 29-year-old Dominican-American photographer who hails from New York City.
Medrano’s love of photography began young, as she told i-D magazine in 2019 that she started taking photos at the age of 14 on family trips.
The photographer went on to study at the prestigious Parsons New School for Design, whose notable alum includes fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
Her undergraduate thesis project at the New York design school titled Untitled Youth won her a The New York Times Lens Blog award in 2014.
Medrano’s photography work has since been featured across the pages and covers of prestigious publications such as Vogue, Allure and Wonderland.

Medrano has worked with other big names in music
Away from Kendrick Lamar’s Mr Morale & The Big Steppers album art, Renell Medrano has worked with many notable names in the world of music.
In 2019, she shot with both Megan Thee Stallion and Bad Bunny for their respective Fader and Interview magazine covers.
She has also worked with the likes of Jay-Z and Solange as well as Playboy Carti, A$AP Ferg and Tyler The Creator.
