With 9.8 seconds left on the clock and the game tied at 105-105, the mercurial point guard dodged the Knicks’ double team and drove into the paint to toss up a floater that would seal victory for the Hawks.
Young was getting jeered all night by a boisterous Madison Square Garden crowd, acting the pantomime villain as he delivered the final nail in the coffin.
As the arena went silent, Trae’s father, Rayford Young, called out to his boy from the sidelines.
“Trae! Trae!” Rayford yelled in celebration.

Trae Young’s family
Trae Young was born on 19 September 1998 to Candice and Rayford Young. Trae is actually named after his father as his full name is Rayford Trae Young.
Trae Young was born in Lubbock, Texas, and is therefore from the US.
His father, Rayford, is an African-American, and his mom, Candice, is Caucasian.

Rayford Young is the dad of Trae Young and was born in Pampa, Texas, on 11 May 1977.
Rayford Young actually played basketball at Texas Tech, and professionally in France, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
He became a stand-out player at Texas Tech, averaging 14.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.2 rebounds.
He also had 37.9 percent of three-point line shooting. After college, he entered the NBA, but went undrafted.
He did, however, go on to play basketball in Europe, playing for teams such as FC Porto in Portugal.
After starting a family at a young age, though, he decided not to pursue his sports career.
He moved on to work as a graduate assistant before getting a degree and later starting work in medical equipment sales.
Trae Young’s mom
Candice Dawn Young, née Nachtigall, was born on 11 January 1979, in Lubbock, Texas, to pastors Paul Lee and Vicki Nachtigall.
Her family was part of Victory Family Church in Norman and she grew up in a religious household.
Candice met Rayford Young while at Pampa High School, with both later enrolling at Texas Tech University.
They started dating, and Candice became pregnant with Trae during Ray’s junior season.

Trae Young also has a younger brother, Tim, and two younger sisters, Caitlyn and Camryn.
Young also has an uncle who played college basketball under the NAIA.
