Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh began his 99th birthday celebrations following the appearance of a new photo with Queen Elizabeth II.
Like many others, Prince Philip is celebrating his birthday in isolation due to covid-19.
Today, he will celebrate at Windsor Castle. However, birthday wishes began yesterday as Buckingham Palace released a new official photograph with the Queen.
The portrait appeared on the official Royal Family social media pages.
The caption read: “This new photograph of The Duke of Edinburgh and The Queen was taken last week in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle to mark His Royal Highness’s 99th birthday tomorrow.”
Prince Philip wears a dark suit with gold buttons paired with a blue shirt and a striped red and black tie.
The Queen wears a floral light blue and yellow dress. In addition, she accessorised with a pearl necklace and silver broach.
In another post on the Royal Family social media, a selection of black and white images of His Royal Highness with the Queen were shared.
The caption read: “Wishing The Duke of Edinburgh a very happy birthday!
“His Royal Highness turns 99 today and will spend the day with The Queen at Windsor.”
Meanwhile, on their official Instagram page, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released two photos featuring Prince Philip.
His 99th birthday poses the question whether the Queen will send a letter to Prince Philip next year. This is because British citizens who reach 100 years of age receive a special letter from Her Majesty to mark their achievement.
