Paul Walker starred in five of the first six Fast & Furious films until he tragically died in a car crash in 2013, leaving behind his teenage daughter Meadow.
On November 28, 2013, Paul Walker wished his Twitter followers a happy Thanksgiving, but just two days later, Walker met an untimely death.
Today, November 30, marks nine years since Paul Walker’s tragic death. In honor of the talented star, let’s take a look at the many tributes his family paid to him.
Paul Walker’s sudden death shocked Hollywood
Much like his Fast & Furious character, Brian O’Conner, Paul Walker was a car lover and he had spent November 30, 2013, at a car event. Tragically, upon leaving the event in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, his friend, Roger Rodas lost control of the car and crashed it with Walker in the passenger side.
The coroner’s report determined that the car was traveling at about 100 miles per hour before it hit a curb, clipped a tree, and a lamp post, before bursting into flames.
The report also states that Walker died of both traumatic and thermal injuries while Rodas died of multiple traumatic injuries.
Cody Walker steps in to film final Fast & The Furious 7 scenes
Paul Walker’s younger brother was asked to step in to film the final scenes for Fast & The Furious 7, in place of his brother.
Cody previously worked as a movie stuntman and appeared in the installment after Universal Pictures briefly shut down production. The company revealed their hiatus was in aid of being: “dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew, and filmmakers.”
After Walker was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, his younger brother finished shooting. Cody bares an uncanny resemblance to his brother and he spoke out on his legacy to Fox: “My love for cars, my love for travel — it’s all from him and I miss him, I miss him every day.”
Cheryl Walker recall’s tragic day she lost her son
In a 2018 documentary, I Am Paul Walker, his family spoke out on their heartbreaking loss. During an exclusive interview with People, his mother revealed the events leading up to his death. Cheryl explained that Paul had brought his daughter, Meadow who was 15 at the time, to visit her. They were discussing plans to buy a Christmas tree that evening, in time for the holiday season.
However mid-conversation Paul remembered about a charity function he had, Cheryl explained: “We were having this good conversation, and he’d forgotten about an event he had… He got a text and said, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m supposed to be somewhere!'”
The event was in aid of his disaster relief charity, Reach Out Worldwide, which he founded following the 2010 Haiti earthquake. The event was to help survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and was held at a car shop owned by Walker and his friend Roger Rodas in Santa Clarita, California.
Tragically, this was the last time Cheryl and Meadow saw Paul.
Paul Walker’s daughter shares loving tributes to father
Paul Walker and Rebecca Soteros, his one-time girlfriend who he dated in 1998, had a daughter named Meadow Rain Walker. Meadow who is now 23 years old and often shares throwback images on social media in honor of her late father.
On September 12, 2021, which would’ve been Paul’s 48th birthday, Meadow posted a throwback photo of the duo on Instagram. She captioned it: “Happy birthday daddy, I love you.”
This year on his birthday, Meadow shared a snap of her and her father. In the caption, she penned: “Happy birthday to my best friend and twin soul. I love you forever and miss you every day.”
She then shared that some new merchandise was coming out in honor of her father’s birthday, which would be dropping on the Paul Walker Foundation website.
Meadow also shares tributes to her father on the anniversary of his death. She captioned one of her many posts: “I love and miss you endlessly. Today and everyday I celebrate your life, your love. And you, my best friend.”
Meadow and Vin Diesel’s unbreakable bond
Meadow honors her father’s friendships and memorabilia. The model shared a screenshot of her text messages with Vin Diesel, who is her godfather but also her dad’s best friend and co-star.
During an interview with Extra TV, Vin opened up about his relationship with Meadow after Paul’s tragic passing. He revealed: “She takes good care of me, to be honest. She is the first person on Father’s Day to wish me Happy Father’s Day…I feel very protective.”
On her 21st birthday, Meadow shared previously unseen footage of her and her father. The clip showed Meadow storming into her dad’s bedroom on his birthday to surprise him. She penned on the post: “I never thought I’d share this. But it felt right. Be good. I love you. Stay safe. Xx”
Fans flooded the comments section with support for Meadow. Paul’s friend and Fast & Furious co-star, Gal Gadot, commented with a love heart emoji.
