Who was Pat Patterson’s partner, Louie Dondero? A long-time veteran of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), Pat Patterson passed away yesterday, 2 December, at the age of 79.

Pat Patterson had a long and prosperous career in professional wrestling and has been called a trailblazer for being the first openly gay WWE fighter.

Patterson chose to keep his sexual orientation from the public until after his career in the ring was over.

He finally came out on WWE Legends’ house in 2014, where he opened up about his experiences: “For once in my life I’m gonna be me. I survived all this, being gay”.

During the 1 minute and 44 second clip, Patterson mentions his partner, Louie Dondero and adds, teary-eyed, that he had a friend with him for 40 years, referring to Dondero.

Pat Patterson’s relationship sadly ended when Louie Dondero died of a heart attack on 28 June, 1998. Since then he has not had any long-term relationships that we know of.

Pat Patterson’s WWE legacy

Pat Patterson had a prolific wrestling career before his retirement and his eventual passing. In the 1980s, he worked alongside Vince McMahon Jr, and created the Royal Rumble match, which was first televised in 1988. He was the company’s first Intercontinental Heavy Weight Champion, declared in September 1979.

Pat Patterson was known as a mastermind of wrestling matches, as he had the ability to translate any directive into a perfect finish.

Fans react to news of Patterson’s death

Pat Patterson died yesterday, 2 December, at the age of 79. It was confirmed that the cause of death was cancer.

Patterson’s death dealt a blow to his fans and to his former employer, WWE, who posted a video tribute to Pat’s life and career.

There has also been an outpour of tributes on social media from fans and colleagues.

One thing is certain, Pat Patterson will be missed by many and his legacy is definitely a hard act to follow.
