Playboi Carti’s Narcissist line of merch and clothing launched yesterday – or did it? After observant would-be purchasers started pointing out some glaring irregularities among the clothes, which included a motorcycle helmet priced at $5,000, the Playboi Carti claimed his website had been hacked.
What clothes formed Playboi Carti’s Narcissist line, which dropped yesterday?
Among the clothing items that made up the much-hyped merchandise release yesterday were a bomber jacket (priced at $200), a hoodie ($110) and motorcycling gloves ($75).
Several fans took to Twitter to highlight what they interpreted as evidence of chicanery. One pointed out the suspicious resemblance many of Playboi Carti’s Narcissist clothing items bear to products available at much cheaper prices via other retailers.
The collection is no longer available via Carti’s online store – the Atlanta rapper claims that his website was hacked, implying that he had nothing to do with the Narcissist clothes on offer.
Social media users react to Carti’s Narcissist clothing line
One user wrote that yesterday’s drop, following a long build-up, “got me crying”.

However, they also joked (presumably) that they’d bought 200 of Playboi Carti’s $5,000 motorcycle helmets. Meanwhile, another user pointed out the apparent typo on one of the items of clothing, a long sleeve top.
It bears the word “narcisisst” – as opposed to “narcissist”.
Following the announcement yesterday, one user wrote that it was the “worst merch I ever seen”. The fact that Carti’s big news amounted to the Narcissist clothing line – if that is indeed the case – has hit hard for some fans. It seems many were expecting news of an album.

What were fans expecting Narcissist to look like?
Since 23 August, Playboi Carti has been hyping up his fans regarding the Narcissist line of clothes.
The three photo reels that currently make up his entire Instagram feed feature a model – presumably Carti himself – wearing various items of mostly black clothing, including a motorcycle helmet and boots.

Comments from fans include anticipation for a “new persona” and a claim that “this the donda fit”. The latter is a reference to Kanye West’s new album, and the clothes associated with it. One Instagram user praised for Carti for “still customising his character”.
If the Carti’s hacking claim is true, then fresh Narcissist clothes may still arrive in the coming days. However, it is not clear whether or not those who have already bought Narcissist merch will receive a refund on their purchases.
