The Young and The Restless star Mishael Morgan has become the first Black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
Mishael made history on Friday at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards for the long-running US soap.
The 35-year-old became the first Black woman to take home the gong for Outstanding Lead Actress.
The star, with fellow soap stars, attended the star-studded event in Pasadena, California, on Friday.
Mishael Morgan’s stunning Red Carpet gown
On the Red Carpet Mishael wore a stunning panelled gown decorated with black and rose print, which had a wide train skirt, floating at the bottom. The custom-made Oliver Tolentino dress showcased her curves with a stunning black belt at the waist.
The Trinidadian-Canadian actress spoke of her roots as she accepted the trophy.
She said: “I was born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and I’m now standing on an international stage and I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do.”
Mishael continued: “Now there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry, the vocation … they can strive to be the best.”
The star held the gong to the sky and beamed ear-to-ear on the stage as the crowd applauded.
Mishael has played Amanda Sinclair in The Young and The Restless after joining the cast 10 years ago, writes Mail Online.
Special thanks to The Young and The Restless fans
During her acceptance speech she also gave a nod to avid viewers of the beloved show.
She said: “I need to thank the fans and everybody sitting at home.
“They embraced me when I came on this show and I am so immensely proud of our generation. We are breaking glass ceilings left, right and center and I am so honored to be a vessel and to experience this moment.
“Everybody out there today, we can do this thing called equality and unity together.”
Mishael’s family tragedy
It comes months after the mum-of-two shared the devastating news she had lost family members in a tragic fire.
She told fans her husband Navid Ali’s brother, wife and children had tragically perished in a house fire.
The actress said five people had died in the blaze, amid reports six were in the house at the time.
She wrote to fans in March: “On Monday morning my husband’s only brother perished with his wife and three kids in a tragic house fire. I am still in absolute disbelief. My sister-in-law set up a fund, please pray for my family and donate if you are able.”
A GoFundMe was created at the time, and after 1000 donations, $87 Canadian dollars were raised for the family.
