The statuesque star met the D.C. power lawyer Robert Altman in 1982 at a dinner hosted by Maybelline.
According to People, Carter was the face of the cosmetics company and Altman was the attorney for their parent company.
Then in the process of divorcing her first husband, Hollywood manager Ron Samuels, there was an instant connection and chemistry that conquered their hearts.

Carter and Altman got married two years later, in 1984.

Robert Altman died earlier this year on 3 February at a Baltimore hospital of complications from a medical procedure. He was 73.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Altman founded Rockville, Maryland-based ZeniMax Media with Bethesda Softworks’ founder Christopher Weaver in 1999.
Altman and Weaver’s company went on to develop such video game properties as Doom, Quake, Rage, Dishonored, Prey, Wolfenstein and The Elder Scrolls.
In October 2020, the company was sold to Microsoft for $7.5 billion.
In a statement, Bethesda called Altman “a true visionary, friend and believer in the spirit of people and the power of what they could accomplish together. He was an extraordinary leader and an even better human being.”

The Wonder Woman actress was left devastated following Altman’s death and has expressed her fears of living without her partner.
‘The next part of my life is I want to learn who I am. It’s totally frightening. I don’t know who I am without Robert,’ she told People.
