Some big news was announced on the Today Show as Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager revealed their Senior VP, Libby Leist got married over the weekend to her fiancé, Sayan Ray.

The couple were engaged in November 2021, during the New York City Marathon. The news came as a surprise to many viewers, as the senior VP likes to keep her personal and work life separate. Needless to say, there’s now plenty of curiosity surrounding Libby Leist’s new husband, Sayan Ray.

Who is Libby Leist’s husband, Sayan Ray?

Today Show Senior VP Libby Leist, 42, married her fiancé, Sayan Ray, over the weekend (4-5 June) in an intimate ceremony in Utica, New York.

According to his website, Ray is a North Salem-based artist whose work is split between his creative practice and his day job as a creative director at Concentric, a health industry-focussed advertising company.

Ray’s creative work, he explains in an interview with the online art magazine Uprise Art, relies heavily on clean lines and harmonious balance. He creates his works spontaneously but thoroughly plans out their execution. The works often have titles inspired by musical pieces he loves, such as Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday or Well, You Needn’t by Thelonious Monk.

Ray was born and grew up in Manhattan and had an art studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn. More recently, he moved to North Salem, NY, where he still lives now. Despite having spent a large chunk of his formative years in Manhattan, he doesn’t think the city is “essential to who I am – but it has influenced me. We’re all a product of our environment and for many of my ‘young adult’ years Manhattan was that environment.”

These days, however, Ray spends most of his time either in his art studio in North Salem, at his new house in the country or in Manhattan for work. He recently bought a home in Westchester where he hopes to build a studio barn right next door.

When he isn’t creating art, he likes to spend time with his wife, Libby, and his children.

When did Ray and Leist get engaged?

Libby Leist and her longtime boyfriend Sayan Ray got engaged in November 2021 during the New York City marathon. Today Show co-host Hoda Kotb announced the news by sharing a picture on her Instagram stories where Leist proudly displayed her ring.

“I don’t know if I was supposed to,” Hoda remarked. “I thought people knew! Anyway, I hope I didn’t mess anything up. Libby, we love you, congratulations.”

Setting up the proposal was certainly a team effort with some help from another TODAY host, Willie Geist.

After a couple of miles, he ran up and hugged his sister and Libby, stealthily handing a Dunkin’ Donuts bag to Sayan with the engagement ring in it. After retrieving the ring, Ray and his then-girlfriend strolled through the park where they had their first date, whereupon Ray got down on one knee and popped the big question.

Ray’s friend, hiding in some nearby bushes snapped photos of the engagement and the happy couple.

Today Show co-host Jenna Bush Hager was apparently the cupid who first brought Leist her husband, Sayan Ray, together. Talking about that fateful first meeting, she says she “always knew this wedding would happen.”

Her co-hosts back her up, adding the circumstances of the meet-cute had prophetic qualities – “the weather was perfect”, as was pretty much everything else.

Leist and Ray’s wedding took place in an intimate ceremony in Utica, New York. Among the guests were Today show co-anchors Jenna Bush Hager, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. Guthrie’s kids Vale and Charley, and Bush Hager’s daughters, Poppy and Mila were at the wedding party.

Congratulations, Libby Leist and Sayan Ray!
