Late actor, Leslie Jordan, joked that he ‘sinned’ so much as a young boy he had to be baptized 14 times.

The Emmy-winning actor has tragically died aged 67 after a car crash in Hollywood on October 24. “The world is definitely a much darker place today without the love and light of Leslie Jordan,” a representative for Jordan said in a statement on Monday.

You may recognize Jordan from the TV show Will & Grace as he won an Emmy award in 2006 for his role as the devious Beverley Leslie. He also appeared in American Horror Story: Coven and Call Me Kat.

In a 2014 interview with Philadelphia magazine, Jordan reminisced on his role in the 2013 film Southern Baptist Sissies; which follows four gay choir boys while being raised in a conservative Baptist church in the South.

Jordan was asked how he relates to his role in the film as the actor was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1955 and raised a Southern Baptist.

The gay actor has spoken out about this being a struggle for him, “I really wanted to be a really good Christian,” he explained. Philly magazine asked Leslie whether he had a hard time growing up in church because of his childhood antics to which he explained that it took an “internal” toll on him.

Jordan went on to admit: “I was baptized 14 times.”

He added. “Every time the preacher would say, ‘Come forward, sinners!’ I’d say ‘Oooh, I was out in the woods with that boy, I better go forward’.”

Although, Leslie laughed about the matter: “My mother thought I was being dramatic. She’d say, ‘Leslie, you’re already saved,’ and I’d say, ‘Well, I don’t think it took’.”

Jordan recalls being a young boy and “messing around with boys in the woods and everywhere.” As a member of the Chattanooga Boys Choir, he reflects on bus trips to Montreal, Canada, in 1967. Explaining, “That’s the first time I remember — messing around in the back of the bus with some of the older boys.”

Leslie also shared childhood memories in a video posted via Instagram as he sat and had breakfast on his patio and “thought about how many times he had been baptized.”

Explaining that because of “all of those bad thoughts” and “secrets” he had to hide, he got baptized multiple times. He even recalls that a preacher once remembered baptizing him the previous summer!

The 67-year-old’s agent David Shaul confirmed the heartbreaking news of Jordan’s death stating: “Not only was he a mega talent and joy to work with, but he provided an emotional sanctuary to the nation at one of its most difficult times.

“Knowing that he has left the world at the height of both his professional and personal life is the only solace one can have today.”

Police reported Jordan’s car crashed into the side of a building and he was declared dead at the scene. It’s currently unclear if he was killed in the collision or if he suffered from a medical emergency beforehand.
