Jordan Poyer is the son of his mother, Julie Poyer, and his father, Louis Dunbar, although the two split before his birth.
Julie is a former volleyball player and previously played the sport at a community college before later transferring to Eastern New Mexico University. It was there where Julie would meet her now-husband, Fa’alaeo Poyer, who is a former tight end at Eastern New Mexico.
The football player instantly hit it off with Fa’alaeo, and, in a 2019 interview with Oregon Live, admitted he thinks of his stepfather as his “dad”.
