Following the release of historical comedy series Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max, fans want to know more about British actor Joel Fry and the character he plays.

The first three episodes of the pirate comedy landed on HBO Max on Thursday (3 March), with the series set to follow the adventures of Captain Stede Bonnet and his revenge ship crew.

Joel Fry features in Our Flag Means Death

London-born actor and musician Joel Fry is best-known to UK audiences for his comedic TV roles in popular sitcoms such as Plebs and Trollied.

His latest role sees him feature in American streamer HBO Max’s historical comedy Our Flag Means Death.

As per Deadline, the show is “loosely” based on the adventures of real-life figure Stede Bonnet, who ditched his life as an aristocrat to become a pirate.

Who does Joel Fry portray in Our Flag Means Death?

Joel Fry takes on the role of revenge crew member Frenchie.

Frenchie’s role in Stede Bonnet’s pirate ship crew is as a bard, aka storyteller and poet, who likes to sing about the crew’s demise.

The revenge ship crew also features Buttons (Ewen Bremner), Black Pete (Matthew Maher), Bonifacia (Vico Ortiz), Lucius (Nathan Foad), Oluwande (Samson Kayo) and Roach (Samba Schutte).

Why does Joel Fry look familiar?

You may recognise the British actor for his role in Game Of Thrones – he portrayed Hizdahr zo Loraq, one of the sons of the Grand Masters in Maureen.

Joel Fry also recently co-starred alongside Emma Stone in Cruella, the prequel to Disney’s 101 Dalmatians.

Other notable credits include Yesterday, 10,000 BC and Love Wedding Repeat.
