With the new trailer release of The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, fans are now curious to know who Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s children are. Meet Jay Bakker and Tammy Sue Bakker-Chapman – what are they up to today?

Who are Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker?

Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker married in 1961. From there, the couple began their own ministry where Jim preached and Tammy Faye sang. Around this time, the couple developed their decade-long puppet ministry popular Christian talk series, The 700 Club.

In 1974, the couple got their big break after they founded The PTL (Praise the Lord) Club, a televised production that promoted and expanded their preaching and music.

The pair are also credited with popularising the prosperity gospel – the belief that by giving money to evangelical organisations, God would reward believers with more wealth, both physical and financial.

Who are Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s children?

Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker divorced in 1992 but have two children together, Tammy Sue Bakker-Chapman – also known as Sissy – born in 1970, and Jamie Charles Bakker – also known as Jay – who was born in 1975.

The televangelists’ eldest daughter, Tammy Sue, likes to keep a low profile in the media. But we do know that in 1992, Tammy Sue took over the Praise The Lord ministry founded by her parents. This came after Tammy Faye revealed she no longer wanted involvement with PTL.

Jay Bakker, on the other hand, is a pastor and author, having published his 2001 book entitled Son Of A Preacher Man. In an interview with NPR, Jamie Charles told the publication, cryptically: “Religion can be a very dangerous thing.”

The book details Jay’s life during and after the Bakker scandal that brought the downfall of his father’s ministries, and delves into the young man’s involvement with drink, drugs and rock music.

In an interview with Matthew Hall, Bakker said of those times: “I would get into fist fights at school because they’d say things about my mom and dad. It was sometimes hard and, then again, it was semi-normal.

“I went through all the rebellious things that people go through, like drinking and partying and drugs, but it was a bit more amplified for me because of the attention.”

What are the Bakkers doing now?

At age 81, Jim Bakker is out of prison and has returned to hosting his own TV show, The Bakker Show, with his second wife, Lori Bakker.

In 2007, Tammy Faye passed away from cancer in her Kansas home aged 65. But, like her ex-husband, Tammy Faye remarried. After her marriage to Jim fell apart, Tammy Faye went on to become a pop culture figure for the LGBTQ community.

When it comes to Jay Bakker, little has been revealed in recent years but in 2011 it was said he runs his co-founded church, Revolution Church, in New York. At the time, he said the church met every Sunday afternoon at a Brooklyn bar and, from his Instagram, it looks as though the church is still going.

Tammy Sue Bakker-Chapman has been leading a private life but what we do know is she is continuing to run PTL.
