Who is Tracie Potts?

Tracie Potts is an American award-winning journalist, anchor, and reporter.

Lately, Potts had been working as a correspondent at NBC News based in Washington D.C.

As their capital-based national correspondent, Potts has covered Capitol Hill, the Biden administration, and other national and international news for nearly two decades.

She has also been a daily contributor to Early Today, CNBC, and more than 200 NBC affiliates.

Previously, Potts worked with the National Association of Black Journalists and the News Literacy Project as an instructor.

She has also served as a news anchor and reporter at WATE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as on numerous boards and advisory councils.

Potts received her Master’s and Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill Schools of Journalism.

According to Famous Intel, while finishing studying for her master’s degree, she worked as a correspondent for WDAY-TV, based in Washington.

Potts was born on 19 February 1969 in Maryland, USA.

The reporter got married in 1997 and is the proud mother of three children.

Her husband and children’s identity are yet to be revealed. 

Is Tracie Potts leaving NBC News?

On 11 August 2021, Potts took to Facebook to announce that she would be leaving NBC News.

She wrote: “After 30 years bringing you the news, most of it with NBC, these are hard words to write: I’M LEAVING NEWS.

“I wanted you to hear it directly from me because you’re the reason I fell and stayed in love with journalism. It was never about me being on TV…

“It’s been a privilege to serve as your source for information.”

Potts has officially left the network on Friday, 10 September, after 24 years.

Where is she going next?

Potts was named the new Executive Director at the Eisenhower Institute. Potts’ first day at the College will be 4 October.

In an email to the Gettysburg community, President Iuliano welcomed Potts and commended her experience. 

“This work combines things I care about deeply: educating the public about issues that affect their everyday lives; listening to all voices and perspectives; and creating opportunities for bright, passionate future leaders to think strategically and advance creative ideas,” Potts told Gettysburg College.

She added: “I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experience and vision to deepen this work, leveraging the proximity of our nation’s capital to give students a platform to explore their passions and impact our world.”
