In the latest installment of the Barbie Signature Music Series, Mattel has paid tribute to rock icon Tina Turner with the release of an exclusive new doll, and here’s where you can buy one.
As the world patiently awaits the release of the hotly anticipated live-action Barbie movie, the iconic children’s toy company continues to make headlines with its constantly evolving line of releases.
From dolls that pay tribute to historical figures to dolls that honor those who helped create COVID vaccines, Barbie now represents a lot more than just the classic kid’s toy we all grew up with.
And Barbie’s latest pop-culture offering celebrates one of the world’s most celebrated and well-loved rockstars, paying homage to the legend that is Miss Tina Turner.
Barbie releases Tina Turner doll to celebrate 40 years of hit single
Barbie has released a Tina Turner doll and frankly, it’s simply the best.
Describing the newly launched doll on its product page, Mattel wrote: “Barbie celebrates the unprecedented music career and journey of Tina Turner. She is a Grammy-winning, chart-topping singer, and one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.”
“This doll commemorates her smash hit “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” and the design is inspired by the iconic outfit Tina wore in the music video.”
The doll, which was officially released on Thursday, October 13, was designed by Bill Greening, who described his experience creating the doll as “an honor”.
Where to buy the Tina Turner Barbie: Amazon and in stores
Hailed as one of the greatest artists of all time, it’s fair to say Turner has a pretty dedicated fanbase across the globe.
As such, there’s a pretty good chance that these dolls won’t stick around on the shelves for very long. But don’t worry, at the time of writing – you can still get your hands on your very own Tina Turner Barbie doll.
For those shopping online, you can pick up your doll from the official Mattel site, at a price of $55. The Tina Turner Barbie was also available on Amazon, however, the listing says that the barbie is currently ‘Temporarily out of stock’ due to low supplies.
Turner praises the release of her Barbie doll
Such is the global appeal of the Barbie doll concept that even Turner herself appears to be pretty pleased with the latest design.
Discussing the release, Turner told news outlets: “I am honored to welcome my Barbie into the group of trailblazing women already represented and introduce more kids to my journey”.
The release comes just over a year after Turner sold the exclusive rights to her extensive music catalog to BMG and Warner Music, handing over the likes of hits including Private Dancer and The Best.
Though technically Turner is currently enjoying her retirement, the 82-year-old briefly ventured back into the music world back in 2020, when she collaborated with Tropical House guru Kygo on a reworked release of What’s Love Got To Do With It.
