Meat Loaf starred in Fight Club
One of Meat Loaf’s most popular acting roles was in Fight Club, the 1999 American film directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter.
Meat Loaf appeared in the thriller as Robert Paulson, also known as Bob, a former bodybuilder who is suffering from testicular cancer due to his over-reliance on steroids.
As a result of his cancer, Bob has had his testicles removed and, through a hormone imbalance, he develops gynecomastia (enlargement of the moobs).
Robert Paulson first meets the narrator at a support group for men with testicular cancer and later joins Fight Club at Lou’s Tavern. Eventually, he applies to join Project Mayhem, passes the test and is officially made a member.
Watch: Meat Loaf’s ‘his name was Robert Paulson’ iconic scene
Meat Loaf’s character is killed during Operation Latte Thunder when he’s shot by a security guard while attempting to flee the night-time raid. He’s too slow, Fight Club Wiki reports.
The Narrator, Tyler Durden, unintentionally creates a new rule in honour of Bob after getting upset over being told one rule of Project Mayhem is members have no name.
The new rule is called “in death, they have a name”, which results in all members present at Bob’s death chanting “his name was Robert Paulson”.
Bob becomes a legend among Fight Club members, with the scene a fans’ favourite. Clips of the iconic scene are on YouTube and other social media platforms.
