Filipina actress Cherie Gil, famous for her character roles in film and TV, has died aged 59.
News of her passing was confirmed to GMA News Online by her nephew Sid Lucero last week (August 5). As per Manila Bulletin, Cherie’s manager also announced the news officially via Facebook.

Meet Cherie Gil’s son Jay
The late actress’ son Jay Eigenmann is 35 years old and is the eldest of her three children.
Born Jeremiah David, Cherie welcomed son Jay during her relationship with fellow actor Leo Martinez.
His father has more than 140 credits to his name, with his acting career spanning more than five decades.
With his parents both award-winning actors and performers, it’s no surprise to find out Jay works in the world of music.
The late actress’ son works behind the stage
Jay is a New York-based audio engineer and production manager. His role has seen him work alongside touring artists including Betty Who and electronic duo AlunaGeorge.
He has also worked behind the scenes at festivals and has been head audio engineer at New York Guitar festivals and Ecstatic Music, which was also held in the city.
As per Manila Bulletin, in a 2018 interview on ABS CBN the actress praised her son. While discussing his career, she said: “Jay Eigenmann is my eldest, he’s an engineer in New York. I am so proud he is really working very hard.”
Late actress also survived by son Raphael and daughter Bianca
As well as Jay, Cherie Gil was also mom to son Raphael, 25, and daughter Bianca, 26.
Cherie welcomed Raphael and Bianca with her ex-husband, conductor and international violinist Rony Rogoff.
Bianca followed in the footsteps of her mother in a career in acting and made her feature film debut in 2020 in the movie Sensitive And In Love.
Youngest of Cherie’s children, Raphael is a New York University alum, having studied liberal studies with a focus on ethics, religion and law.
