Meet Dwayne Haskins' mother and father as family mourns Steelers QB's death

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has died aged 24 following a vehicle collision in South Florida, according to reports.

Following the news of Haskins’ passing, tributes have taken over social media as fans send their condolences to the Steelers quarterback’s family.

As many send their thoughts to the late footballer’s loved ones, some are curious to know more about Dwayne Haskins’ mother and father, who supported him throughout his footballing career.

Dwayne Haskins’ parents

Dwayne Haskins was born on 3 May 1997 to parents Tamara and Dwayne Haskins Sr. The football player is also survived by younger sister Tamia.

Tamara and Dwayne Haskins Sr were both hugely supportive of their son’s footballing aspirations throughout his childhood. Dr Jerry Boarman, head of school at Bullis, which Haskins attended, described his parents as having given him a “strong foundation” during an interview with The Daily Record.

Talking to The Players’ Tribune in 2019, Tamara opened up about supporting Tamia and Dwayne in their dreams. She said: “Just being able to support them, watch them grow and help them to pursue their dreams and give them the opportunity and the exposure.”

What Dwayne Haskins said about his mother and father

Not much is known about the quarterback’s father but he did feature in Big Ten Network’s The Journey documentary series in 2018 and discussed his son and daughter’s close friendship.

While his father is seen to keep away from the spotlight, Dwayne Haskins previously admitted he is a “mamma’s boy”. In 2019, he dedicated a piece published by The Players’ Tribune in honour of Mother’s Day. In the article, he opened up about how thankful he was for her and his fond memories from childhood.

That same year, Haskins also honoured his mother in a Players’ Tribune documentary-style video entitled A Mother’s Bond. He also shared his appreciation for her in the clip.
