William Shatner launched into space in Blue Origin’s capsule today prompting renewed attention in the actor, including whether he has a girlfriend.

The oldest astronaut in history

90-year-old William Shatner made history as the oldest person to enter space after blasting off in Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin.

Famous for his role as Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek, the actor was accompanied by Blue Origin vice-president Audrey Powers, Dassault Systèmes executive Glen de Vries and Planet co-founder Chris Boshuizen.

Blue Origin’s New Shepard 4 launched at 10.49am ET and passengers experienced weightlessness when they reached a maximum altitude of 60 miles (100km). The capsule returned to the West Texas launch site at 19.59am ET.

The ten-minute commercial flight almost left the Hollywood actor lost for words when describing the experience, but eventually Shatner told Bezos:

“I’m so filled with emotion about what just happened. It’s extraordinary. I hope I can maintain what I feel now. I don’t want to lose it. It’s so much larger than me and life. What you have given me is the most profound experience I can imagine.”

The Star Trek legend’s trip to space has attracted new media attention in his personal life, particularly since he was spotted with his ex-wife in March 2021.

Does William Shatner have a girlfriend? Is he married?

No, Shatner isn’t currently in a relationship but he’s been linked with numerous actresses throughout his career.

Since 1967, the actor has been linked with Joan Collins, Nancy Kovak, Celeste Yarnall, Angie Dickinson, Kirstie Alley and Vera Monte. He only dated each actress for one or two years.

However, he wasn’t single for decades, Shatner has been married and divorced four times.

Gloria Rand

Captain Kirk’s first marriage, to Canadian actress Gloria Rand, lasted from August 1956 to March 1969. They tied the knot in Canada and share three children – Leslie, Lisabeth and Melanie.

Shatner reportedly left Rand while filming Star Trek: The Original Series in 1966 and their divorce was finalised three years later.

Marcy Lafferty

Shatner’s longest marriage was to second wife Marcy Lafferty, from 1973 to 1996. She was the daughter of television producer Perry Lafferty, who produced CBS comedies M*A*S*H and All In The Family.

Nerine Kidd

Shatner and Nerine Kidd were only married for two years (1997-1999) before their relationship ended in tragedy when the actor returned home to find Kidd’s body in their swimming pool.

An autopsy concluded she died from accidental drowning, with alcohol and Valium in her system. Her death is commemorated in Shatner’s 2004 album Has Been.

Elizabeth Anderson Martin

Martin and Shatner’s marriage lasted for 18 years. They tied the knot in 2001 after bonding over the loss of their previous partners. Now 62, Elizabeth had been married to Michael Glenn Martin until he passed away in 1997.

Although she has appeared in several documentaries and series as herself, Martin is an artist and professional horse judge. Her passion for horses began at an early age and she became a horse trainer after studying equine and animal science at Purdue University.

The pair filed for divorce in December 2019 and officially split three months later, although they were seen celebrating Shatner’s 90th birthday in March. RepublicWorld reports the actor paid her more than $2 million as part of their prenuptial agreement.
