Colt Brennan's love for Bob Marley throughout life and death explored

Colt Brennan’s love for music icon Bob Marley was well known throughout his life. As news of Brennan’s death broke, the significance of the date he passed has not been lost on fans.

News of Colt Brennan’s death broke on 12 May 2021. The former NFL player had passed away a day prior.

Colt Brennan on his love for Bob Marley

Colt Brennan was often found speaking about his love for Bob Marley on Instagram. Many of Brennan’s Instagram captions signed off with “One love,” one of Marley’s most iconic songs with his band, The Wailers.

In June 2020, Brennan shared a news article with his Instagram following about sales of Bob Marley’s music spiking in lockdown. Brennan added a quotation from Abraham Lincoln: “Surely God would not have created such a being as man, with an ability to grasp the infinite, to exist only for a day! No, no, man was made for immortality”.

Brennan accompanied this with the hashtag #legend. His love for the Reggae artist was well-known and well-documented. Colt Brennan shared eight pictures of Bob Marley to his Instagram and many more were posted in reference to him.

Colt Brennan: Death

Colt Brennan passed away on 11 May 2021. He was just 37 years old.

In a statement released by the Brennan family, they wrote:

“We know how much the islands [Hawaii] meant to him. The Hawaiian people, they were his ‘ohana. He passed away peacefully with his sisters, mom, and dad by his side listening to Bob Marley and with a lei on his chest. He loved Hawai’i and we are forever grateful for all they did for him”

Fans reflect on Colt Brennan and Bob Marley’s death date

Given his public love for Bob Marley, Colt Brennan’s passing on the same date as Marley has been noted by his fans.

One fan shared their thoughts on Twitter: “Sombering… Colt Brennan loved Bob Marley. His family reported they had Bob Marley playing in his ear when he passed. Today also marked the 40th anniversary of Marley’s passing.”

Another tweeted: “Colt Brennan was a Bob Marley fan and he passed the same day as Him listening to his music. That’s crazy”
