Actor Chuck Norris has paid tribute to the late Clarence Gilyard, his co-star on Walker: Texas Ranger, in a heartfelt Facebook post.

Gilyard, who is also known for his roles in Top Gun and Die Hard, has passed away at the age of 66.

The news of Gilyard’s death was confirmed by the college of fine arts at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he worked as a professor in stage and screen acting and film.

Fans have also taken to the internet to share their condolences with Gilyard’s family and friends, and reflect on their favourite moments from the actor’s career.

Chuck Norris pays tribute to co-star Clarence Gilyard

Following the news of Gilyard’s death, Norris shared a tribute to his co-star on Facebook.

The actor reflected on their friendship, writing about the “many great things working together” and their mutual love of “bringing the bad guys to justice.”

Norris continued on to share his thoughts and prayers with Gilyard’s wife and children, and told Gilyard that he will be “deeply missed” by all who knew him.

“You will be deeply missed by all who knew you. May you Rest In Peace, my friend. Until we meet again,” Norris finished.

Fans respond to Norris’s emotional post

Fans reacted to Norris’s heartfelt tribute to Gilyard and shared their own thoughts on his passing.

One fan commented: “I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend and coworker. Y’all were unstoppable together. We still watch the reruns. Praying for Mr. Gilyard’s family and yours.”

“My condolences to all friends and family. I remember the very first episode when Clarence first arrived on Walker. He will be missed…RIP!” another wrote.

Others deemed the co-stars “a great team,” and one said that Norris and Gilyard were “unstoppable together.”

Who did Clarence Gilyard play in Walker: Texas Ranger?

Gilyard played the role of James “Jimmy” Trivette in Walker: Texas Ranger.

Jimmy is the partner of Cordell Walker, the titular role played by Norris, and is often teased by him throughout the series.

Known for his money-making schemes, Jimmy grew up in Baltimore and was a football player on a scholarship, before a serious shoulder injury took him out of the game.

His character then joined the police force and started out as a highway patrolman, before becoming a Texas Ranger.

Were Gilyard and Norris friends in real life?

Gilyard and Norris both starred in Walker: Texas Ranger for its entire eight-season run.

Between 1993 and 2001, the on-screen partners featured in 196 episodes of the long-running TV series.

In an interview with GetTV, Gilyard was asked about his friendship with Norris off the screen.

He replied: “Yes, it was great. He was great. He knew what he was doing.”
