Johnson was a journalist and author who retired from his position as a news anchor in December 2020. His passing has left behind his wife, their three children and three grandchildren.

Beloved WUSA9 news anchor Bruce Johnson was married to Lori Smith-Johnson, his wife with whom he shared three children and three grandchildren.
His wife announced the passing of her husband via Facebook in a post on Sunday, 3 April 2022 that also stated:
“The family asks that you would respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
WUSA 9 reports that Johnson passed away due to heart failure on Sunday morning in Delaware.
As shown on her Facebook page, Lori Smith-Johnson began studying at Howard University in 1977 and graduated in the school year 1981.
She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and lives in Washington D.C.

Prior to his unfortunate passing, @brucejohnson7211 had an active Instagram profile with a following of more than 6k users whereby he would upload posts featuring his family, personal life and work updates.
He is survived by his wife and their three children named Brandon, Kurshanna and Carolyn, as well as their three grandchildren.
Details of their children’s lives and education can be found among the couple’s online profiles. For example, Lori Smith-Johnson shared pride in their daughter after she received a Masters of Science in Athletic Training degree back in 2015.
