Who is Blaire Erskine and why is she trending on Twitter? The comedian has yet again fooled Twitter, as her latest video impersonating an ERCOT spokesperson was a tad too good.

Who is Erskine?

Blaire Erskine is an American comedian and writer.

She is best known for her satirical videos impersonating various right-wing political figures and fictional Trump supporters – but you probably know her for her deadpan spoof of Costco guy Dan Maples’ wife.

Blaire Erskine’s ERCOT spokesperson impersonation was almost too good

On Monday, 14 June, Erskine was once again able to fool Twitter into believing she’s someone other than herself.

Playing a spokesperson for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the Texas power grid that recently asked state residents to conserve power amid a heatwave, the comedian’s latest skit gave viewers a choice between “AC or AOC”.

The hilarious crux of Blaire Erskine’s ERCOT stunt was the suggestion that going without electricity would save Texans from US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive legislator often vilified by Republicans and right-leaning media outlets.

“Texas is set up on a power grid,” she declared in the video shared to Twitter. “What a power grid is, well, it’s something different to everybody, and that’s what you gotta understand. I mean, would you rather have AC or would you rather have AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez)?”

Considering that millions of Texans lost power during a winter storm earlier this year, prompting Texas governor Greg Abbott to falsely blame the outages on the Green New Deal and Ocasio-Cortez, it didn’t take long until “AC or AOC” began trending on Twitter, with many being fooled by Erskine’s almost-too-good performance.

Twitter reacts to the now-viral video

As her website states, Erskine is best known for confusing people online with her impressions – and her Monday performance was not an exception.

Some got the joke, others were not amused, while a number of Twitter users weren’t quite sure what to make of it.

Even though Blaire said things such as “God’s gonna find a way to make you unplug” and “in this scenario, we are God”, it seems some were still confused by the comedian’s stunt.

So next time you see Blaire Erskine’s video, remember to laugh.
