Who is Austin Russell?
Austin Russell is a tech mogul best known as the founder and chief executive officer of automotive sensor firm, Luminar Technologies.
The company was founded in 2012 after Russell, aged 17, developed the idea while studying physics at Stanford University.
He later ended up dropping out of his studies at Stanford University after receiving a $100,000 fellowship from billionaire Peter Thiel as part of his program which aims to help young entrepreneurs start their careers.
Russell’s success has landed him on Forbes’ 2022 30 Under 30 Hall Of Fame, which honors 10 years of the publications under 30 list.

Austin Russell donates to Team Seas campaign
Curiosity about the Luminar Technologies founder sparked over the weekend after Austin Russell generously donated to the Team Seas campaign, which aims to remove plastic from the world’s waterways.
It was launched on 31 October 2021 by YouTuber’s Mr Breast, and Mark Rober aimed to raise $30 million to remove 30 million pounds of discarded plastic from rivers, beaches and oceans. The campaign officially ended on 1 January 2022, with the cleanup work set to start later this year.
On Saturday (1 January) Mr Beast announced the campaign had reached its goal as he thanked tech mogul Austin Russell for donating after he helped get the total over the goal after it was “a few million pounds short.”

Tech mogul’s net worth explored
Following his generous donation to Team Seas, some are curious to know Austin Russell’s net worth. According to Forbes, he has a current net worth of around $1.8 billion.
Russell became the youngest self-made billionaire at 25, with the now 26-year-old having built his fortune through his company Luminar Technologies.
The tech firm, which aims to “make autonomous transportation safe and ubiquitous,” went public as per a SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) deal in December 2020.
Since then, Russell’s fortune has continued to grow, with some having dubbed him the next Elon Musk.
