They talked via phone for a year before meeting in person
Steve Martin and Anne Stringfield first crossed paths when Stringfield was working as a fact-checker for the New Yorker. Martin is a long-time contributor to the publication, having written various articles since the 1990s.
During Stringfield’s time at The New Yorker in the mid 2000s, she was assigned to check one of Martin’s comedy pieces and the rest, as they say, is history.
As explained by Martin in a 2017 interview with AARP Magazine, after that initial call they went on to correspond via phone for a year before they eventually met in person.

Martin and Stringfield are set to celebrate 15 years of marriage at the end of this month – on 28 July. Looking back on their relationship with People in 2015, the actor gushed about such an “important episode” in his life story.
