Simu Liu talks losing out on Crazy Rich Asians role
Hollywood can be tough, and a failed audition process is something that Simu Liu knows all too well.
As reported by IndieWire, Liu opened up about auditioning for the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians four times, but he ultimately lost out.
“It felt like someone was telling me that I just wasn’t good enough, that I just wasn’t likeable. I didn’t have that thing that made people want to watch it,” he shared.
“It was at a time that was very difficult for me, I was trying to figure out whether I could be the lead character or whether I could only be a supporting character for my entire career.”
Luckily, Simu Liu didn’t give up on Hollywood, and he’s now scored a role in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie.
As for Crazy Rich Asians, the likes of Gemma Chan, Constance Wu, and Henry Golding ended up starring in the film. Plus, a sequel and spin-off projects are currently in the works.

All we know about Henry Golding’s parents
The role of Crazy Rich Asians’ Nick Young eventually ended up going to Malaysian-British actor Henry Golding, but what was his family life like?
In the 2018 movie, his character is the only son of Phillip Young and Eleanor Young but, in real life, his parents are Margaret Likan Golding and Clive Golding.
Golding was born in Malaysia, but his entire family packed their bags and moved to Surrey, England when the actor was seven or eight years old.
Henry and his parents moved to Surrey because, although his mother is a native-born Sarawakian, his father is British.
According to Answers Africa, Golding’s parents met when Margaret was working as a nanny, and Clive was in the British Army’s Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
As reported by The Guardian, Henry described the family move from Malaysia to Surrey as a “slap in the face”, saying that his mixed heritage meant “never quite understanding a sense of home.”
“I always felt we were at arm’s length just because of the way we looked. Then growing up in the UK, you slowly start assimilating. As a young man, you start taking pride in who you are. You start realising: ‘Yeah, I am Asian.’ Then you yearn for a broader understanding of what that means.”, the actor once shared.
Henry Golding has two siblings
Unlike his Crazy Rich Asians character Nick, Henry Golding has two siblings: Jessica Golding and Ed Golding.
According to Parents Mag, Jessica is married with two children, and Ed works as a chef and a photographer in London.
Henry is the youngest of the family.
