Meet Vereena in season 2 of The Witcher

Netflix’s The Witcher released a second season of the fantasy drama series on 17 December, introducing two new cast members and characters to the mysterious universe.

The Bruxa of The Witcher, portrayed by Agnes Born, is a witch-vampire-shape-shifter hybrid of Portuguese mythology who proves a more than worthy opponent for the skilled Geralt.

Whether you enjoyed Vareena’s appearance in the show or not, the terrifying character will most definitely haunt your dreams for a long, long time.

Vereena, Born’s character, is unaffected by sunlight, most active between midnight and 2am, and harbours an insatiable thirst for the blood of children.

In Looper, writer and vampire historian Lyn Gibson explains the Portuguese blood-suckers are slightly different to the vampires of Eastern European and Western mythology.

Mostly female, the creatures were said to have been witches in their mortal lives making them difficult to detect and almost impossible to kill.

Following the series 2 premiere, @agnes.born received tons of positive feedback and took to Instagram to thank the creatives behind the show. She said it was an honour to be part of the “incredible universe”.

Fans have taken to social media to express their delight at Born’s role in the show, some praising her movements as unnerving and complimenting The Witcher’s editing team.
