Who is Arne Sorenson’s wife, Ruth?
Arne Sorenson met his future wife, Ruth, in Iowa, while they were both attending college at St. Olaf, which was, incidentally, also their respective parents’ alma mater.
Ruth’s full name is Ruth Christenson Sorenson and she is one of 6 children in the Christenson family. Ruth graduated in 1981 from St.Olaf, the same year as her husband, Arne Sorenson.
Ruth Sorenson’s entire family graduated from St. Olaf, including her mother, Lois, her father, Paul, her brothers – Steven, Joel, Nathan and Thomas – and her sister, Rachel.

This year, 2021, would mark 36 years of marriage for the couple. They have four children together: Astri, Esther, Isaac and Lars. Astri and Isaac are confirmed to have also attended and graduated from St. Olaf, just like their parents.
The Sorenson family’s residential home is in Maryland. Ruth Sorenson works on the board of N street village as Vice-Chair.

RIP Arne Sorenson
Arne Sorenson passed away on Monday, 15 February 2021, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, at which point the disease was at stage two. At the time of his passing, he was still undergoing treatment for his illness.
According to Daily Mail, “He was the third CEO in Marriott’s history, and the first not named Marriott.”
Sorenson worked for The Marriott for 25 years, since 1996. He served in various executive and VP roles until 2012, when he attained the title of President and CEO of Marriott International.
Following Sorenson’s passing, CNN Business published a statement released by the executive chairman of Marriott International, J.W. Marriott, Jr.
He says of Sorenson: “He had an uncanny ability to anticipate where the hospitality industry was headed and position Marriott for growth. But the roles he relished the most were as husband, father, brother and friend – We share your heartbreak, and we will miss Arne deeply.”
