Are Nick Khan and Tony Khan related? People are wondering whether there’s a family link between the WWE and AEW bosses after it was revealed the WWE had laid off a number of international staff. WWE president Nick Khan will now oversee the international offices to more closely align them with WWE headquarters.

Nick Khan is the president and chief revenue officer of WWE. He reports directly to WWE chairman and chief executive Vince McMahon, who was a wrestler himself.

Khan left a career as a practising attorney to become a media executive. He was co-head of television at talent and sports agency CAA before joining WWE last year.

In 2006, the LA-native launched International Creative Management’s Sports Media department and represented the biggest names in sports broadcasting.

In 2012, he joined CAA and represented the company that now employs him, WWE. Khan has negotiated “billions of dollars in media deals on their behalf”, according to The Org.

“While representing WWE at CAA, he was instrumental in transforming our business model by securing domestic media rights increases of 3.6x over our previous agreements,” said Vince McMahon when signing Khan last year.

To celebrate his new job, Khan spent $7.6 million on a mansion in the posh Riviera section of Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, according to Dirt.

As the son of Iranian immigrants, Mr Khan said he grew up a fan of the WWE’s The Iron Sheik, the now retired Iranian wrestler. His sister, Nahnatchka Khan, created ABC comedy Fresh Off The Boat and is producing new NBC series Young Rock about the childhood of Dwayne The Rock Johnson, who will feature in the show.

His father, auto-industry billionaire Shahid Khan, has been the Jaguars’ principal owner since 2011 while Tony has served as executive vice-president of football administration and technology for more than nine seasons.

Under Khan’s guidance, the Jaguars created a Football Technology and Analytics group in 2012. Since February 2017 he has also headed up the analytics and research department at Fulham FC.

In January 2019, Khan shook the world of sports and entertainment with the creation of All Elite Wrestling, or AEW, a direct competitor to WWE.

Khan graduated from the College of Business at the University of Illinois in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. Before that, he graduated from the University of Illinois Laboratory High School, in 2001. His mother is social worker Ann Carlson Khan.

Despite having the same surname, Tony Khan’s father is from Lahore Pakistan while both of Nick Khan’s parents are Iranian.

Despite not being related, the Khan’s will certainly be familiar to one another. Nick Khan’s new role will involve regenerating the waning popularity of WWE and seeing off the challenge of new kid on the block, AEW, headed by his namesake.

CBS Sports describes AEW as “the first company with major financial backing to take a swing at beginning to compete with WWE on a major level in nearly two decades”.
