What is Najee Harris’s 40 time? The Pittsburgh Steelers made Harris their number 24 pick in yesterday’s NFL Draft. Now fans want to know more about the Steelers’ new running back – including Najee Harris’s weight, high school highlights and whether he has a girlfriend.

Who is Najee Harris?

Harris hails from the city of Antioch in California. He was named Bobby Dodd National High School Running Back Of The Year as a senior, making 2,776 yards and scoring 36 touchdowns for Antioch High School.

Those skills saw Harris move to legendary football team Alabama Crimson Tide, which represents the University of Alabama.

Alabama are so renowned, Harris was one of six of their players picked in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The others were wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (pick number six, Miami Dolphins); defensive back Patrick Surtain II (nine, Denver Broncos); wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ten, Philadelphia Eagles); quarterback Mac Jones (15, New England Patriots) and offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood (17, Las Vegas Raiders).

Najee Harris’s 4.45-second 40-yard dash won’t rank him as the fastest in the NFL but his size and strength will help him to evade tackles thanks to the ability to change direction – and fast!

Harris didn’t start a match in his first two years with Alabama and was suspended for the first quarter of the 2019 season opener, reportedly for missing a team function.

He started the other 12 games of his junior year and gained second-team All-SEC honours by covering 1,224 yards and scoring 13 times on 209 carries (5.9 per) while also catching 27 passes for 304 yards (11.3 per) and seven touchdowns.

Harris helped Alabama win another national title in 2020, while he won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top back. Harris also won first-team All-SEC honours.

Harris rewrote the Alabama record books in 2020. He broke records for total touchdowns (57), rushing touchdowns (46) and rushing yards (3,843). He also accumulated 4,624 all-purpose yards to rank second in the programme’s history.

Harris also led the nation in total touchdowns (30), rushing touchdowns (26) and scoring (180), while finishing third in Division I in rushing yards (1,466).

He added 43 receptions – 425 yards and four touchdowns – to his senior totals and played in 55 career games (25 starts), all of them at the University of Alabama.

Personal life

On the day of the 2021 NFL Draft, Harris visited a homeless shelter, Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP). It was hosting a ‘draft watch party’ in his honour. 

Harris lived with his parents and four siblings in GRIP for several years when he was growing up, Sports Illustrated reports.

Harris brought food for the residents and told reporters: “There was a time I needed a helping hand. They gave us an opportunity to get back on our feet. So it is my job to give back.”

Harris has more than 334,000 followers on his Instagram and more than 1,500 followers on Twitter.

As for the fans wondering if Najee Harris has a girlfriend, it seems he isn’t dating anyone at the moment.

Harris was born on 9 March 1998, which makes him 23 years old. He is the youngest of five children of Tianna and Curt Harris. He also has four half-siblings from Curt’s side – three brothers and one sister. 

Despite his humble background, Harris told 24/7 News: “I don’t look back, I just keep going.”
