Ice hockey center Nicolas Roy has made it to the NHL’s final four with the Vegas Golden Knights. Some are wondering if he’s related to Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy, so let’s clear things up.

Nicholas Roy and the Vegas Golden Knights go deep in 2021 Stanley Cup

Nicholas Roy is an NHL player for the Vegas Golden Knights and, at present, has made it to the NHL’s final four.

Roy has been playing for the Golden Knights since 2019 after being drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (no.96) of the 2015 NHL draft.

In 2021, he booked his place in the Stanley Cup semifinals after eliminating the Colorado Avalanche 6-3 in Game 6.

Through 13 playoff games, Roy has six points, 15 shots, 36 hits and a minus-2 rating.

Due to the frequency of his appearances at the moment, people are wondering if he’s related to Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy.

So, are the two related?

Despite some believing Nicolas to be the son of legend Patrick Roy, that is not the case. In fact, they are not related at all.

Nicolas was born on 5 February 1997 in Amos, Quebec, Canada, to parents Nick and Lisa Roy.

Patrick Roy, on the other hand, has three children of his own: Jonathan, Frederick and Jana, whom he has with ex-wife Michèle Piuze.

Patrick Roy’s children have ice hockey careers of their own

Although Nicolas and Patrick are not related, two of Patrick’s children, Frederick and Jonathan, have notable hockey careers themselves.

Both played for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) while Patrick was head coach of the team.

Frederick played two seasons of professional hockey in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans, but has since ended his professional career.

He currently attends Concordia University, where he plays for the Stingers.

Jonathan, meanwhile, opted out of hockey earlier than his brother, and is now an established musician.

His music style has been described as “easy-going 21st century pop with a little light reggae thrown in for good measure. Think Ed Sheeran meets Paolo Nutini and then slap on Bob Marley’s greatest hits.”

His 2017 album, Mr Optimist Blues, made no.3 on the Canadian Albums chart, while he released a new album, My Lullaby, in 2021.
