Woman questions if she was in the wrong after refusing to ditch plans over boyfriends diagnosis

A woman has begged for advice online after she refused to ditch her plans despite her boyfriend’s earlier medical diagnosis, and frankly, we’re all with her.

Social media might be a cesspit of conspiracy theories and right-wing political groups, but it’s also a great site for sharing stories and asking for advice. Just recently, a man discovered his wife was cheating on him with artificial intelligence, and while no resolution was reached, it was certainly an entertaining read for the rest of the internet.

Her boyfriend was diagnosed with disease that affects 2 billion

Reddit is perhaps one of the more controversial social media sites, and yet, it has millions of active users on a range of subjects. Perhaps one of the most popular subreddits is AITA, where people question whether they are in the wrong.

In one viral moment from 2023, which has since been deleted, one woman questioned whether she should have cared more about her boyfriend’s health diagnosis. Despite the original post being deleted, clips of it can be found across the web.

Working in events management, the 25-year-old woman was offered lavish tickets which she intended to use for herself, her boyfriend, and her step-sister. Unfortunately, her boyfriend pulled out of the event following a doctor’s appointment.

“I got worried and called him immediately,” she penned on the site. “I asked if everything was okay and he said he was diagnosed with anemia.”

Now, in case you weren’t aware, anemia is a more common illness that affects roughly 25% of the global population. The blood doesn’t produce enough healthy red blood cells, which can result in everything from weakness to headaches.

The girlfriend said she was “so sorry” and proceeded to give him pep talks and mental assistance for a whopping two hours. She also reassured him she would “always love him.”

The original poster decided to go to the event anyway, which her boyfriend took as a “selfish” move intended to hurt him. He even claimed “Look who cares about me now” when she returned from the event.

For once, the internet spoke in unison

While anemia is, of course, a troubling health condition that can be dangerous if left unchecked, it’s a disease that affects literally billions of people. In most cases, it can be easily treated with over-the-counter medication and supplements or diet changes.

Of course, if you’re ever unsure or worried about an illness, you should contact your doctor.

As you might expect, most of Reddit agreed with the woman, with some even arguing that he was attempting to manipulate and gaslight her.

“When I saw the title, I expected it to be cancer, some kind of degenerative disorder, or something requiring major surgery,” one person said. “It sounds more like he’s using it as an excuse to get out of something he didn’t want to do, then taking it a step further to try to manipulate you.”

Another said: “The 2-hour pep talk you had to give him about having to take supplements is embarrassing for him. He basically threw a huge pity party and that continued until you called him later.”
