5 noticable signs your partner is lying to you, according to millionaire matchmaker

A millionaire matchmaking service has revealed the five biggest signs your partner is lying to you, with one of their points trashing the idea that maintaining eye contact is a sign of honesty.

Navigating relationships in the 21st century is easier said than done. Regardless of the advice available, including how to identify a toxic relationship, people often find themselves stuck and without a clear course ahead of them.

Lying in a relationship is more common than you think

According to a study performed by the University of Kassel, one-third of all romantic partners lie to their significant other. Though some people are better at identifying lies than others, there are a few signs that could point to someone attempting to deceive you.

To better understand said signs, The Focus caught up with April Davis, the founder and president of LUMA Luxury Matchmaking.

Since were not mind-readers, we all worry about the people around us lying at some point, said April. Theres nothing worse than realizing the person you love most has been hiding things from you. But how can we tell?

Despite popular opinion, April said that maintaining eye contact is not the glowing display of honesty we all believe. Instead, she said that liars will maintain eye contact to track how well you’re buying their story.

Their eyes may flick to the side as well when theyre thinking, especially if you ask them a curveball question that they havent yet made up an answer for, she added.

If your partner is lying, you might also notice subtle changes in the way they speak and what they say. For instance, if your partner is normally well-spoken, you might find an increase in the amount of “filler” words they use like “um” and “like”.

April added: Repeating a question you asked back at you is also a way to buy time while they think about how to answer.”

Lying also affects how someone sounds, so keep your ears up and ready for any changes in pitch and tone. Because the liar is focusing on the story and keeping their facts straight, it’s not uncommon for liars to use language and words they wouldn’t usually employ.

Lying manifests physically in fidgeting

If you don’t want to end up like TikTok’s Reesa, who earlier this year posted 50 videos about her lying partner, then keep your eyes peeled for physical manifestations of lies.

Liars tend to engage in grooming motions like scratching and fiddling with their hair while they lie, April explained. These motions are calming, so its essentially them trying to keep their cool while they try to sell their story.

Beyond fidgeting, you could notice the liars using both of their hands to gesture, which April said that liars do more often to illustrate their points. Her theory is also backed by science as a University of Michigan study found that 40% of liars in court used both of their hands to emote.
