Toothpaste hack can prevent cavities

If you’re suffering from a decaying tooth despite following all the conventional methods to maintain oral hygiene, perhaps you should try one more thing.

For the unversed, the food we eat often gets stuck in the gaps between the teeth, and sometimes, flossing alone may not guarantee thorough cleaning.

Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri, with more than 10 years of experience as a dentist, shares a “life-changing hack” in one of her videos, that can “reverse” tooth decaying in the early stages.

She recommends spreading a tiny amount of toothpaste on an interdental cleaning brush and pushing it in the gaps between your teeth, once or twice a day. This provides protection against bacteria build-up in regions the traditional toothbrush can’t reach.

Use the interdental cleaning brush after brushing your teeth and do not eat anything for about 30 to 60 minutes after cleaning so the properties of the toothpaste are more effective. The dentist claims the tooth cleaning hack can “actually reverse the decaying in its early stages.”

Dentist recommends the ‘best’ toothpaste

As well as brushing and flossing your teeth, picking the right toothpaste is also important for good oral health. Dr. Shaadi strongly recommends looking for a brand that contains fluoride.

The fluoride in the toothpaste is essential to create a protective layer in the gaps between your teeth. “This is going to deliver the much-needed fluoride between your teeth, which is the number 1 place where cavity starts,” she explains.

Several studies have found thatfluoridated toothpasteis most effective in controlling dental decay by slowing down the demineralization process of the enamel.

The dentist recommends keeping your mouth hydrated throughout the day for more salivation, which prevents the enamel from wearing off due to excess acid in the mouth from the food and drinks we consume.
