People are only just learning the horrific truth about Little Piggies nursery rhyme
Nursery rhymes have a long, long history that is seemingly much darker than some people think, with the little piggy tune in particular hiding a dark secret.
Though TikTok might be chock full of silly dance trends and dangerous beauty crazes, there is a rare occurrence when it teaches you something you would have otherwise never known. A recent example could be how silica gel packets are super useful for any tech lovers out there.
The Three Little Pigs is much darker than you think
There are a series of nursery rhymes and fables that many of us naturally know all the words to. Such stories include Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, The Ugly Duckling, and of course, the Three Little Pigs.
But while the Three Little Pigs always bore slight danger thanks to the inclusion of the wolf, many believed the Little Piggy nursery Rhyme was a tad more PG. They were wrong, so wrong.
The rhyme reads: “This little piggy went to market, This little piggy stayed home, This little piggy had roast beef, This little piggy had none, This little piggy cried ‘Wee! Wee! Wee’ all the way home.”
As it turns out, the Little Piggy nursery rhyme was hiding a dark secret beneath its somewhat shiny exterior.
For instance, when the piggy “went to the market”, he was not gathering groceries as many of us expected as a kid. Instead, he was being slaughtered. The story isn’t much better for the second pig, who had to remain at home to mature for slaughter.
The third piggy is eating roast beef to fatten him up, not because he enjoys it as we first guessed. The final pig was not screaming in excitement, but instead in unbridled fear.
Other nursery rhymes with incredibly dark backstories include Ring Around The Rosie, which is about the Black Death, Goosey Goosey Gander, Jack and Jill, and even Three Blind Mice.
Childhoods have been ruined everywhere
As you might expect, people are quite distraught at the true meaning of the Little Piggy nursery rhyme after humming it for years in good spirits.
Mom Allison let her son Sylas (@i.sullivanfamilytiktok) into the truth in a recent viral TikTok that has accumulated 1.8 million likes. After admitting that he thought Narwhales were a mythical creature, Sylas listened as his mom let him in on the best-kept parenting secret.
“What? What do you mean,” he questioned. “What? He was so happy. He had overalls and a satchel. My gosh”
Sylas actually seemed upset by the truth, his eyes widening in disbelief before settling into an uneasy acceptance. Many in the comments echoed his concerns.
“Im 40 and Ive just learned about the little pig going to market,” one person said.
Another wrote: “55&.but I’m still going to believe he was going shopping!”
