Girlfriend unknowingly captured fianc’s final moments alive during underwater proposal

Back in 2019, a man drowned during an underwater proposal and his girlfriend unknowingly captured her fiance’s final moments alive when he pulled out a ring.

Marriage proposals often range from cute and simple ideas to extravagant stories, but this romantic relationship grand gesture took a turn when Steven Weber “never emerged” from his free dive on vacation in Tanzania.

Man’s underwater proposal led to his final moments alive

The BBC reported the American man named Steven Weber and his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, were staying in a submerged cabin at the Manta Resort, off Pemba Island in Tanzania.

The couple had booked four nights at the resort’s underwater room that is reportedly located approximately 250m (820ft) from the shore with the cabin anchored around 10m (32ft) deep in water. On the third day of their stay, Mr Weber plunged into the water to propose to his girlfriend.

Kenesha Antoine filmed Steven Weber diving underwater asking her to marry him. Footage shows Weber wearing a snorkel mask and swimming fins, pressing a handwritten proposal note against the cabin’s glass window as Ms Antoine films from inside.

His note read: “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But& everything I love about you, I love more every day!”

Steven Weber then turns over the sheet of paper to reveal the proposal, before pulling an engagement ring from his shorts and swimming out of the camera view.

In a Facebook post later, Kenesha Antoine confirmed Steven Weber’s death and said he “never emerged from those depths”.

The resort said Steven Weber “tragically drowned while free diving alone outside the underwater room”, and a statement revealed: “It is with the deepest regret that we inform that a fatal accident occurred at The Manta Resort on Thursday September, 19, 2019.”

Devastated girlfriend explains fianc’s tragic death

Kenesha Antoine’s Facebook post described Steven Weber, Jr as a beautiful soul who “brought so much joy to so many people.”

The devastated fiance explained that the “best day” of their lives “turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable.”

Antoine wrote she would “try to take solace” in the fact that they enjoyed amazing bucket list experiences during their time on vacation in Tanzania.

She further encouraged everyone to “please love each other while you can, as hard as you can.”

She finalized the post by lightheartedly suggesting that wherever Stevens spirit now resides, “hes probably entertaining someone with a story about how he royally screwed up that proposal and died while being extra.”
