McDonald’s testing ‘massive’ new Big Arch burger far larger than a Big Mac

McDonald’s is testing its biggest burger ever, known as the Big Arch, in three markets across the world.

The beef burger is even larger than a McDonald’s Big Mac and could be coming to the US in the future if the tests are successful.

McDonald’s testing Big Arch burger

“As we announced late last year, we continue to innovate across our core menu to address unmet customer needs with a more satiating burger that will provide great value for money,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said during an earnings call on Monday (July 29).

He said the new burger, which they are “piloting” across three international markets this year, includes two beef patties perfectly layered with melting cheese, crispy toppings and a tangy new McDonald’s sauce.

The burger is currently being tested in two Canadian locations, Alberta and Ontario, and Portugal, but Kempczinski hinted that they do have future plans to launch it in more places.

“It’s a quintessential McDonald’s burger with a twist on our iconic familiar flavors, named The Big Arch, we plan to attest and learn through the end of the year to gather learnings before scaling more broadly internationally,” he revealed.

In Canada, the test is running from June 25 until early-August and McDonald’s intends to roll out the burger nationwide later this summer. It features two 100% Canadian beef patties, three slices of white processed cheese, crispy onions, slivered onions, pickles, lettuce, and Big Arch sauce.

‘Massive’ burger larger than Big Mac

Videos of the burger are flooding TikTok as people try the new menu item in Canada and Portugal, and they show just how big it actually is.

“It’s massive. Huge. I don’t know if I can even eat that,” one person said while opening up the insane new menu item.

You can see that it hardly fits in his hand, with two big beef patties, loads of melted cheese and a seeded, peppered bun. It’s not clear how big the patties actually are, but they look like the ones you get in a quarter pounder.

Quarter pounder patties are 4.25oz (120g) each, while a Big Mac is made with two 1.6oz (45g) patties. That means the Big Arch could potentially contain more than double the amount of meat.

Another video from someone in Portugal shows the mammoth beef patties and lashings of salad spilling out of the bun because it’s so enormous.

Former McDonald’s corporate chef Mike Haracz predicts that the burger alone will cost upwards of $12 if it launches in the US, and even more for a meal.

In the meantime, you can enjoy the McDonald’s Smoky BLT Quarter Pounder which has finally returned in the US for a limited time after two years.
