Spotify reveals first song you played this year ahead of Wrapped release
Ahead of the latest Spotify Wrapped, the music streaming service has introduced a new feature which allows you to see the first song you played this year.
Each year, Spotify Wrapped offers music lovers the opportunity to reminisce over their biggest songs from the year. Whether you’ve had one album permanently on loop throughout 2022 or you’ve tuned into some new artists, Spotify Wrapped gives you a playlist personally curated to your fave songs from the year. Since its launch six years ago, it’s become one of Spotify’s most popular features.
If you’re in the mood for some serious musical nostalgia, you might be curious to know more about your listening habits from January 2022. Let’s take a look.

Spotify pop up takes listeners to the first song you played this year
On October 29, 2022, Spotify users took to the internet to share their first song played back in January. The additional feature arrived as a pop up on the Spotify app.
First the pop up asks you to guess what your first song streamed in the year was, then you swipe to find out the answer.
Frustrated Spotify users who dismissed the pop up haven’t been able to access the musical flashback. Unfortunately, there is not currently a way to access the pop up once it has been dismissed. It is not a permanent feature on Spotify but a one-off for users to enjoy.
Some users haven’t received the ‘first song’ pop up yet. However, it will continue to roll out over the end of October and start of November, ahead of Spotify Wrapped’s release.
Music lovers share their first songs from January 2022
For those who did use the pop up, they’ve been sharing their first song played at the start of the year to social media.
The first song played this year offers listeners a chance to reflect on their journey across the past eleven months. From breaking up with an toxic ex, to falling in love, Spotify listeners are sharing how their musical tastes reflect their year.
For many listeners, Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” dominated their airwaves and was the only way to kick off the year. With Midnights releasing this October, many Swifties might be kicking off next year with a new Taylor track. Swifties can also analyze their favorite Taylor Swift songs from the latest album with the help of the Midnights song sorter.
When to expect your Spotify Wrapped 2022 playlist
The all-important Spotify Wrapped has yet to have a confirmed release date. However, we know it is likely to arrive before December 1, as seen in previous years.
November is the month to get your Spotify Wrapped, as the playlist only accounts for music streamed between January 1 and October 31. No streams from the months of November or December are factored into the playlist.
The likes of Louis Tomlinson, Drake, Offset, and Nickelback all have albums set to release in the last two months of the year. This means their new songs won’t make the cut in Spotify Wrapped 2022, no matter how many times you stream them at the end of the year.
How Spotify Wrapped analyzes the songs you played this year
Spotify Wrapped doesn’t just give you an awesome playlist curated to your exact listening habits. Included is a slideshow of data taken from your listening habits. This includes how many minutes you listened to your favorite artist to how close you are to becoming a superfan (top 1% only). For artists, Spotify Wrapped also offers an opportunity to engage with their fans and see their highs and lows throughout the year.
Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny was the most popular artist of the past two years, beating out the likes of Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and BTS. Rodrigo, however, claimed the most-streamed song of the year. Her first hit, “Driver’s License,” was played more than 1.1 billion times throughout 2021.
