Americans choose their favorite pizza topping – and you may be surprised by the results

Americans have chosen their favorite pizza topping, and while pineapple was thankfully nowhere to be seen, the designated favorite is a little disappointing.

Food is something we all have opinions on, which naturally means the subject is debated across the internet and in our homes. Already, we have been subjected to a debate on chicken sandwiches, the viral candy salad, and even whether or not the Kit-Kat Krispy Kreme is too much chocolate.

America’s favorite pizza topping is boring

To better understand the American public’s wants and needs when it comes to pizza, the BLACK+DECKER brand conducted a survey of the population. They called it their Pizza Pulse survey.

They found that 75% of the public consumes pizza a few nights a month or more, with 72% saying that it’s most often on a Friday.

When sourcing their ‘za, 64% of Americans would choose a takeout, with the rest presumably buying ready-made pizzas from the grocery store. Just don’t get them from Erewhon if you want to afford rent!

Arguably the most important part of a pizza is its toppings, and while an earlier survey had pineapple at sixth, the fruit was nowhere to be seen in BLACK+DECKER’s poll. Instead, their number one spot fell to pepperoni (67%) followed by sausage (44%), bacon (39%), mushrooms (32%) and onions (26%).

On the other end of the scale came pickles (4%), shrimp (3.5%), eggplant (3%), arugula (2.5%) and anchovies (1%).

“With endless possibilities, we like to think that every person has a unique point of view on how the best pizza looks, tastes, and when it is enjoyed,” saidKendall Nohe, Vice President of Product Management at BLACK+DECKER. “The BLACK+DECKER vera Pizza Oven is all about bringing fresh, customized pizza directly to your home and allowing our customers to craft their perfect pizza their way.”

A lot of ways to enjoy your pizza

Part of the fun of ordering a pizza is designing it to meet your specific specifications, whether that be through the size, crust, sauce, or even dips.

Of the American public, 29% enjoy a Classic New York Style, 24% a Deep Dish, and only 2.5% the Neapolitan style. Just wait until they hear about the Volcano pizza in Japan.

As a food that is often shared, pizza is enjoyed at a range of functions and events. 33% dive into a slice while a sports game is on, but 25.2% would prefer their pizza with a side of board games.
