The ultimate man-repellent outfit is dominating social media

The internet is currently debating “man-repellent” outfits, with one woman claiming she’s found the “ultimate” ensemble for beating away the opposite sex.

Dating in 2024 is full of men in their Soft Guy Eras walking around as walking, talking red flags. As such, many women have done away with dating entirely, choosing instead that “boy sober” lifestyle that is not dissimilar to South Korea’s 4B movement.

What is a ‘man-repellent outfit

After controversial dating tactics like Seeding and the overwhelming safety concerns for women in the dating world, it should come as no surprise that some are done with relationships.

For that reason, and with TikTok’s usual brand of witty irony, some women have taken to adopting “man-repellent” outfits in the hopes of dissuading men from approaching them in the first place.

In a recent viral clip from Sophie Silva (@notsophiesilva), the influencer complained about most “man-repellent” outfits being comprised of a hoodie and jeans. The general theme seems to be oversized clothing with as little shape and structure as possible.

Naturally, Sophie felt the need to provide an outfit of her own, though hers was notably more embellished than other options on TikTok.

“Whenever I go out in public like this, no man dares to approach me,” she told her followers. “They genuinely all think I’m a witch or something. All you have to do is dress like you don’t belong in this era and then add as many ruffles and frills as possible.”

Sophie’s lavish outfit was made from a cream-patterned corset with a sheer white bralette on top. She accented the look with a flowy skirt and the biggest pair of gold boots you’ve ever seen.

But the “man-repellent” outfit did not stop there, with Sophie emphasizing that it’s important to wear “every piece of jewelry you own” including waist chains, arm cuffs, and chunky rings.

Her outfit might have backfired

While dressing like you’re from another time seems to put off a large majority of men, Sophie did not expect to attract a particular niche who are into medieval-style ways of dressing.

“As a male, we are indeed scared to approach someone who looks like a goddess who could strike me down with a bolt of lightning,” one person wrote, to which Sophie responded, “I will be completely honest after reading all of the comments under this video I can acknowledge that this TikTok may have backfired LOL.”

Supporting Sophie’s claim, one person added: “I wear outfits like this, and trust me, toxic men will stay away, I’ve had like a few guys come and give me compliments and they were all really sweet.”

“I dress cottagecore/vintage everyday bc because Im a big fan of whimsy and men very rarely approach me its amazing,” another echoed.
