McDonald’s blank billboard smells like its french fries

McDonald’s latest campaign features red and yellow billboards that smell like French Fries.

The blank billboards with nothing but a single color spread across them have a hidden compartment to store fries. The internal heat and ventilation are said to intensify the smell, which reaches anybody walking within five meters of the display.

The brand has captured the experiment on film and shared it on YouTube calling it “Smells Like McDonald’s.”

The video shows people stopping to smell the billboard as they walk past it and guessing at once the smell of McDonald’s famous French Fries.

Aside from featuring a mystery element, the ad appealed to many as people took joy and pride in getting the smell right.

The voiceover in the video says at the end: “People could look away but they couldn’t smell away.” It is also the first billboard featuring nothing but a smell that’s treated as an advertisement.
