Say goodbye to your food court hotdog as Costco serves controversial rule change
Its not a good day to be a Costco food court fan as customers share in-store signs preventing non-members from chowing down on their iconic food selection.
To shop at Costco, home of the bargain cookies, customers need to have a membership which starts at $60. The grocery store has reportedly always looked away from non-members wanting to dine, but that looks to be changing in 2024.

Costco food court is becoming more exclusive
From Spanish churros to gooey slices of pizza, Costco offers a range of yummy fast food options for its hungry customers. The prices are notoriously cheap and are a welcome presence following hardcore savings around the rest of the store.
Unfortunately, it looks like the fun of the food court is coming to a close as customers have started to notice signs popping up in-store.
“Effective April 8, 2024, an active Costco membership card will be required to purchase items from our food court,” one sign shared on Reddit read. “You can join today. Please see our membership counter for details.”
Similar posts are being shared across social media as Costco seemingly cracks down on hungry customers. Thankfully, you still have 12 days to stock up on hotdogs and burgers.
There is a possible silver lining to this very depressing cloud as social media users have reported seeing such signs before. Previous posts suggest the grocery store attempted to make similar moves in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

The rest of the store has also been subjected to rule changes as early as last year. Essentially, the store grew frustrated with non-members slipping in under the radar.
Costco said at the time: “We dont feel its right that non-members receive the same benefits and pricing as our members. Costco is able to keep our prices as low as possible because our membership fees help offset our operational expenses, making our membership fee and structure important to us.”
We want our hotdogs!

Though Costco has yet to make a formal statement regarding the signs, customers are already angry by the potential change.
One person scathed: I bet there’s a laundry list of changes, not in our favor, coming as a result of the new CEO. It’s just getting started.
If that keeps the pizzas $10 Im good with it, a second person countered while a third said, They literally lose money on the hot dog deal. So if everyone didnt also shop there, they would go bankrupt.
