6 alternatives to ‘Butter Nails’ as sunny manicure takes over spring
‘Butter Nails’ are spring’s latest nail trend, with people sporting a stunning pastel yellow color, just like butter – but yellow isn’t for everyone.
If you’re not keen on the sunny manicure, here are some other nail trends to try this season – from brights to neutrals and everything in between.

“The gorgeous, pale yellow ‘butter nails’ trend is certainly capturing attention this spring and I love it! But if muted yellow polish isn’t on your color chart there are a number of fresh, creative nail art options in line with spring 2024 palettes and styles to explore instead!” beauty expert Laura Pucker told The Focus.
1. Fruit Salad
The first option she suggested is the “fruit salad” manicure, a fun look which involves painting each nail a bright hue from spring’s key color stories “for a playfully curated rainbow effect across both hands”.
Some great options include crisp greens, coral oranges, lavenders and cheerful yellows which all scream spring and will brighten up your nails.
2. Galaxy Design
If you prefer something a bit more out there, “galaxy nails” could be right up your street, using sheer polishes iridescent glitters, and holographic overlays.
One ultra-modern take on this is the “aurora borealis” manicure which blends light purples, teals, and shimmering glitter in an ombre fade down the nail bed.
3. Colored French Tips
A much plainer option is colored French tips, taking the classic manicure but adding a pop of color instead of the usual white.
Unconventional colors like pearlized seafoam green tips can be stunning for spring, or an inverse French fade starting darker at the cuticles and transitioning to pale, near-transparent pink or peach at the ends.
4. Pastel Dreams
Another beauty expert, Sophia Tang, recommended any pastel color or design for the perfect spring nail look.
In particular, soft hues like lavender and mint green have a “timeless appeal” and will add a touch of happiness to your hands.
5. Metallic Sheen
Metallic nails are another popular look this season, bringing a “touch of modernity and edge” to spring 2024.
She says the use of silver and rose gold, in particular, have seen a 30% increase in nail salon requests, and will complement any outfit.
6. Earthy Tones
Finally, earthy tones offer a classic neutral look that’s great for any season, and lighter shades are perfect for spring.
Pinks, browns, greens and terracottas are all nail polish colors that will make your hands look classy and elegant.
Pucker said that press-on nails are also seeing new popularity this spring as people back off from expensive salon visits and opt for at-home options with cute seasonal designs, which are far cheaper.
