Flavor of Sonic’s new Blackout Slush Float revealed as drink ‘transports fans to outer space’
Sonic has just announced a brand new limited-edition drink to celebrate the North American total solar eclipse on April 8.
The moon will completely cover the sun for the first time in seven years, and the huge astronomical event will be visible across most of the US.
Sonic’s Blackout Slush Float
“Sonic Drive-In is giving fans an out-of-this world experience for the rare North American Total Solar Eclipse on April 8�with the launch of the new Blackout Slush Float,” the fast food chain said in a press release.
It will be available nationwide starting March 25�for a limited time, and guests will also receive one free pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses with every purchase while supplies last, to safely watch the eclipse and “create fun memories”.
The icy drink is dark black in color to represent the temporary darkness of the solar eclipse and topped with white whipped cream and blue and purple galaxy-themed sprinkles to “transport fans straight to outer space”.
A total solar eclipse only happens every one to two decades, so it’s a huge occasion. The last one happened in 2017, and the next won’t be for another 20 years – in 2044! Find out when and where it will be visible via Nasa.

Flavor of the new drink
The slush doesn’t look very appetising, but it’s flavored with cotton candy and dragon fruit, creating a sweet and fruity concoction.
One Twitter/X user has managed to try the drink early and says the Sonic Blackout Slush tastes like Lucky Charms.
On TikTok, a Sonic employee added that it “tastes like a dessert” with a hint of cherry, while someone else noted: “It’s just really sweet.”
Many feared it would taste like liquorice due to the intense black color, but that’s thankfully not the case.

If you fancy a savoury snack alongside the Blackout Slush Float, Sonic is offering $1.99 Crispy Tender Wraps from March 4 to�May 5.
The yummy menu item features an all-white meat crispy tender all wrapped up in a warm tortilla with hickory BBQ sauce, melty shredded cheddar cheese and crispy shredded lettuce.
If Hickory BBQ isn’t your thing, you can also get it in Cheesy Baja, featuring an all-white meat crispy tender with zesty cheese sauce, melty shredded cheddar cheese and lettuce in a warm tortilla.
