Instagram users think GIFs are ‘removed’ from comments as button is ‘missing’
The option to add GIFs on Instagram is what made the comments section super fun, but users are afraid the feature may have been ‘removed’.
Last year, Instagram rolled out the option to add GIFs in comments, which was at first only available to reply to stories. Users enjoyed expressing themselves in the comments with the help of funny animation rather than only sticking to texts and emoticons. The fact that it’s ‘suddenly missing’ has annoyed many.
Instagram users think GIFs have been removed from comments
The GIF button would automatically appear next to the text in the comments before you hit ‘send’, but that isn’t the case anymore for some users.
A lot of them have taken to Twitter(X) to flag this, claiming the button to post GIFs is ‘missing’. This was first noticed by users earlier this week and complaints have increased with each passing day.
The option to post a GIF was made available on the app for select users in 2023 when it was first launched. The feature quickly became a fan-favorite because it made conversations more fun and edgy.
People would use a single image to communicate. Many felt this was way more efficient than typing out what they felt or had to say.
At the time of writing, Instagram hasn’t addressed claims that GIFs have been removed. The Focus has reached out to their team for comments.
Meanwhile, Instagram users are asking one another if there is any way to get GIFs back.
One posted: “The GIF button disappeared on Instagram. Does anyone know why? How might I get it back?”
“Instagram, you removed the GIF comment option? UGH,” said another.
A third user wrote: “Instagram took away my GIF comments. What am I going to do,” commented one.
You can still use the feature in stories
It isn’t clear if the missing GIFs option in comments is due to a temporary glitch or if the feature has been permanently removed. Only Instagram can answer that.
But, you can still post GIFs while replying to stories on the app. Follow the below steps:
- Open the story you want to reply to.
- Select the reply box at the bottom.
- Tap on the GIF icon on the right-hand side.
- Select any GIF of your choice from the gallery and click Send.
