Make Starbucks’ Coffee lavender drinks at home with these DIY tips – it’s cheaper
If youre looking to save some money and still enjoy a Starbucks-level coffee, you might want to roll up your sleeves and make their trendy lavender drinks at home.
In 2024, the time of loud budgeting, the average Joes are learning to live their best lives and save dollars simultaneously. Part of that is biting the bullet and spending less on coffee.
The Starbucks lavender drinks have been a hit

Earlier this year, numerous news pages teased the release of lavender-infused drinks at Starbucks. Though the benefits of the floral herb are well documented, the coffee house refused to confirm speculation until March when they unveiled their Spring line.
Alongside a whole host of merchandise and food options, Starbucks launched two drinks in their iced range.
Lavender is the perfect flavor to transition us from the winter season into spring, said Patrick Penny, Starbucks beverage developer, in a press release. Its soft sweetness, light floral notes, and beautiful color ignite feelings of rejuvenation and awakening associated with the change of seasons.
Though both the lavender cream matcha and the latte were a smash hit, they can also rack up a bill of $6.75 depending on the size. In the spirit of money saving, lets see how you can recreate the drinks at home.
Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha
Starbucks Penny described: When creating the new Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha, we wanted to capture the uplifting energy of spring in a cup. The vibrant green matcha topped with lavender-hued cold foam delivers a delightfully colorful and unexpectedly delicious flavor combination.
According to a behind-the-scenes video, the Starbucks lavender matcha is actually relatively simple to make.
For the at-home version, youre first going to need a matcha powder. Though green tea powder can be expensive, there are more affordable options available if you hunt hard enough. On Amazon, matcha ranges from $9 to $45, but it is also available at Target, and Walmart.
Though using a specialty whisk is always preferred, first-time buyers can get away with mixing the matcha with water until dissolved and bubbly.
Starbucks uses a highly secretive lavender powder for its floral punch, and while the exact brand is yet to be revealed, there are lots of retailers that stock similar products. You could also cut more corners by purchasing a dedicated lavender syrup, using roughly 2 tablespoons according to various TikTok recipes.
You might also run into issues when it comes to making the brands iconic sweet-cream foam, which is made using a specific machine. Thankfully, TikTok says you can make an adjacent formula using cold milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla syrup if you’re fancy.
We’ll be using the Matcha Green Tea Powder Mix, which has 30 servings for $9.99, which equals $0.33 per drink. We chose Walmart’s 750ml Lavender Syrup at $16.39, which is around 25 servings – so $0.65 per drink.
Then we have the sweet-cream foam.
Sticking to Walmart and Target, to save you trips, you can grab Whipping Cream for $5.67, which will get you 20 servings ($0.29), vanilla syrup for $10 ($1.11), and sugar (or sweetener) and milk of your choice. You can also try this recipe here for their creamy foam.
- Matcha $0.33
- Lavender Syrup $0.65
- Vanilla Syrup $1.11
- Whipping Cream $0.29
- Cold brew $3.49
- Total: $5.87
But you don’t need the whipping cream, it’s if you want it really thick!
- Starbucks: $6.75
Now youve got all the ingredients, assemble the matcha and the ice, and then top with your frothy milk!
Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte
We aimed to create a really balanced, delicious beverage, Penny said about the latte. The oat milk and the Starbucks Blonde Espresso make a lovely pairing, providing a smooth, well-rounded profile that is complemented by the floral and vanilla flavors of lavender.
Thankfully, the oat milk latte is far more simple than its matcha counterpart. If you have an espresso machine then fire that baby up with two steaming shots, and if youre using instant coffee, then whisk with cold water until the desired strength.
From here, combine the coffee with lavender syrup or powder and then top with your chosen milk. Simple!
