5 telltale signs that you could be autosexual

Following recent comments made by an A-list celebrity, the internet is once again obsessed with the idea of being autosexual and the signs that could point to you being one.�

There are almost as many sexualities as there are people in the world, after all, each individual experience is wholly unique. Though the exact number is unknown, numerous sites place the designated sexuality number at around 23.�

What is an autosexual?

Though autosexuality is nothing especially new, its a topic of conversation in the cultural stratosphere after recent comments from noneother than Kourtney Kardashian.�

On Dictionary.com, the term is described as a term for sexual attraction to oneself, especially a preference for masturbation over sexual intercourse.

For more clarification, in the article, autosexual is described as a trait wherein one is turned on by engaging in their own eroticism.”

On her lifestyle website Poosh, which is not unlike Gwyneth Paltrows Goop, Kourtney outlined why she meets the criteria for an autosexual.�

The short answer is yes, most likely. In fact, we all are, at least a little, Kourtney told Therapist and writer Casey Tanner. 

Lets take a look at some of the tell-tale signs you might be an autosexual.�

You fantasize about yourself

Fantasizing is a very normal part of human existence, even within a relationship. However, if you tend to fantasize about yourself the most, then you could have autosexual tendencies. The same is also said of fantasizing about yourself during sex.�

Very much attracted to yourself

Though self-love is always a top priority, autosexuals tend to take the concept one step further.�

As a sex therapist, I believe it’s important to think highly of yourself, build yourself up, and show yourself self-love. For autosexual people, though, there is a sexual level of attraction that many people might not necessarily experience with themselves, wrote expert Rachel Wright for InStyle

Attracted to people who look similar to you

In another portion of her article, Rachel explained how being attracted to similarly looking people is a sure sign of autosexuality. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it.�

She said: If you find yourself sexually attractive, this is probably inevitable and can happen for some autosexual people. Again, not weird!

Not as interested in physical relationships

Though physicality is a large part of modern-day relationships, its not a mandatory one. There are countless variations of monogamous relationships that arent built around the act itself.�

If you find yourself more interested in some private alone time, then this might also point to autosexuality. 

You identify with the label

Arguably the most important step in working out if youre an autosexual is deciding if you identify with the term. Sure, you might meet all the other criteria, but if youre not vibing with the term you also might want to keep it labelless.

“Identifying as autosexual can help someone who is autosexual find community, communicate with potential partners, and feel more concrete in their sense of self,”� Eli Scriver, founder of Pillowtalk, told Yahoo.�
