A ‘self-mounting’ shelf goes viral on TikTok

The item in question is popularized by inventor/woodworker, Vasco Cabral, on TikTok, and the shelf is believed to stick to the wall “without penetrating” into it.

It all started with the video showcasing the supposed self-mounting shelf posted by the creator sometime in February.

The inventor claims, the shelf needs to just be pushed against any wall and it’ll get mounted to it without you having to drill any holes to hang the same.

Multiple videos on his channel are of him showing how to mount the shelf and remove it. After removing the item, he goes on to show the wall behind “without any damage” from fixing or removing it.

This led to a lot of users urging the creator to share details about how it works and where they can buy the self-mounting shelf as it not only saves time but also allegedly avoids drilling through the wall.

However, there is no information regarding the availability of the home decor item at the time of this writing.

Creator explains how the ‘floating’ shelf works

In a viral video with over 23 million views, Vasco has taken it upon himself to show how the shelf mounts to the wall without creating any holes or damage.

According to the creator, the shelf mounts to the wall when you simply push it into the wall with slight force. You can unmount it by pulling apart the upper sleeves of the shelf to loosen the grip.

He then explains that the shelf has “four stainless prongs” at the back, which supposedly “lock onto the wall” when pressed, but allegedly cause no damage to the surface.

However, several users argue that the shelf wouldn’t stick to the wall without the prongs piercing through the wall, while others claim they saw holes behind the shelf when it was unmounted.

“How do the prongs go into the wall without penetrating,” asked one user.

A second user said: “‘Barely leaves any visible damage’ he said, but I could see 4 nail holes in the wall.”

Meanwhile, another user who is thrilled to buy the shelf wrote: “OMG! This is a game-changer. Where can I buy it?”

“I need this in every room in my house! Whoever thought of it, this is brilliant,” read one comment.
